LOS ANGELES – Cannabis delivery drivers and other workers across California have voted overwhelmingly to approve a three-year contract with San Francisco-based Eaze, union officials said Saturday.
The agreement applies to cannabis delivery drivers and depot staff at 11 Eaze locations statewide. It was reached earlier this week by a bargaining committee made up of employees represented by United Food and Commercial Workers locals 5, 135, 324 and 770 after nine months of negotiations.
The contract includes immediate wage increases of up to $2.50 an hour for retail and delivery workers, and up to $3.50 an hour for inventory and depot employees. It also includes mileage reimbursements, health care benefits, provisions for work hours, appropriate advance notice for scheduling, premium pay on holidays and paid time off for part-time workers.
Union officials called it the largest contract covering cannabis delivery drivers in the United States.
“We are thrilled to have achieved such meaningful victories through our collective strength and solidarity,” Ron Swallow, a delivery driver with Eaze Van Nuys and part of the UFCW Local 770 negotiating committee, said when the tentative deal was reached Wednesday. “This contract will not only improve the lives of Eaze employees but sets a powerful precedent for labor rights within the cannabis industry as a whole.”
