Pizza. Amazon. Weed.
What do those three have in common? They can all be delivered to your home, and soon marijuana deliveries will be a bit easier to get. The delivery regulations in Massachusetts changed to allow one person to deliver weed, rather than two.
Devin Alexander, the CEO of the delivery company Rolling Releaf, told Wicked Local media partner WCVB Channel 5 that the change was welcome.
“It’s going to slice our payroll in half essentially,” Alexander told WCVB. “Instead of laying people off, we’re just going to buy more vehicles. This is going to help decrease customer wait time, and it’s going to help expand our reach. We’re going to be able to deliver in places that we weren’t able to deliver to before.
Here’s what to know about the change.
It used to be that when it came to marijuana deliveries, two people were needed in one car to do them.
Now, the deliveries can be made with one person per vehicle, as long as the retail value of the cannabis in the car is less than $5,000.
Two drivers can still carry up to $10,000 worth of product when making deliveries.
The rule was put in pace as a safety precaution, but was criticized for the cost it added to cannabis delivery operations.
The rules are expected to go into effect later this month after a public comment period.
