The Columbian Lawyers Association of Brooklyn held its monthly continuing legal education meeting at Gargiulo’s Restaurant in Coney Island on Wednesday, Oct. 2, where attorney Sean McGowan served as the guest lecturer.
McGowan delivered a presentation titled “Cannabis: The Long and Winding Road,” which covered the history of cannabis from its use as an ancient medicine to its emergence as a growth industry, the implications of New York’s recent legalization, and future developments in the field.
McGowan, a graduate of the Touro Law Center, is a recognized leader in the field of cannabis law and corporate legal matters. He represents emerging growth, middle market and public companies, as well as investment firms, advising them on corporate, securities, financing, borrowing, and merger and acquisition issues.
He currently serves as president of the Columbian Lawyers’ Association of Suffolk County and secretary of the Confederation of Columbian Lawyers of New York State. He is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the New York State Bar Association’s Cannabis Law Section and the International Cannabis Bar Association.
McGowan’s accomplishments include being named one of the top cannabis lawyers in the world by the Cannabis Law Report and being recognized as a New York Metro Rising Star from 2020 to 2023. He was previously honored as one of Long Island Business News’’ “40 Under 40” and received the Huntington Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals’ Long Island’s Top 30 Young Professionals Award. Additionally, he has served as a contributing editor for the Cannabis Law Digest and authored a noted article in the Touro Law Review.
