Blue Violets dispensary of Hoboken in North Jersey launched the first free NJ cannabis delivery via e-bikes powered by Priscotty.
“We want to reach our customers when they can’t make their way to the store,” Lauren Thompson, CEO of Blue Violets said.
“With e-bikes and using Priscotty, we can deliver products safely and quickly without putting another car on the streets. It’s better for everyone,” she argued.
It’s likely the first licensed NJ cannabis company to use e-bikes for product delivery.
Co-owner Max Thompson said their NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJ-CRC) Investigator was not aware of other e-bike delivery services in Jersey.
The minimum Blue Violets cannabis delivery order is $75. There is no extra charge for delivery. It’s notable that there’s a transaction fee the customer doesn’t pay. However, Max said cannabis customers must pay with Aero pay and connect it with their bank account. No cash is accepted.
They have rolled out free delivery in Hoboken and nearby neighborhoods like Weehawken and some parts of Jersey City.
“You wouldn’t know they’re carrying cannabis. It’s required by the rules,” Max noted.
Customers can place delivery orders through both Blue Violets’ and Priscotty’s websites.
“It’s quick, a 15-minute delivery,” Max said.
He explained they have gotten a few orders so far, especially when it was rainy. So, some of their existing customers are getting their cannabis delivered when they’re not up for a long walk.
Max noted they are focused on delivering to Hoboken and have a turf that includes neighborhoods in Jersey City, Weehawken, and Union City, but not all of them.
“Unfortunately, you have to draw the line somewhere,” he said.
Notably, Weehawken and Union City don’t allow dispensaries.
Their couriers have an app to manage the delivery, which allows customers to track them.
Max said they have 3 couriers so far to start using their own e-bikes or renting one.
Blue Violets argued that by choosing e-bike delivery, they are speeding up service within their densely populated corner of Hudson County in an environmentally friendly way.
They are an Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI)/woman-owned micro-boutique adult-use recreational cannabis dispensary. They said in a release that they focus on personalized service, quality products, and community education.
Blue Violets offers a refined cannabis experience rooted in wellness, integrity, and access.
The Thompsons are locals living in nearby Weehawken. Lauren is a nurse, and Max is a lawyer.
Blue Violets opened last May 2024.
They took a while to open after Hoboken changed its cannabis laws in the middle of the licensing process as they were applying.
A few local politicians eager for attention seized on an anti-marijuana Not In My Backyard (NMBY) sentiment that had gathered. It was created by the small Multi-State Operator (MSO) Story, which came to town with high-end lawyers without charming the locals who live by their location.
Playing on the fears of normies, a few politicians were able to ram through a law restricting dispensaries. A failed City Council candidate led a group that sued them in court.
So Blue Violets had to spend more time and money getting through the process. They tabled outside their dispensary and built community support in Hoboken among the people and City Council members. Thankfully, Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla and leading council members supported them.
Blue Violets was very happy when the political anti-marijuana group lost their court appeal trying to shut them down.
“The (NJ) Supreme Court takes less than 10 percent of the cases,” Max noted about the fight continuing.
Priscotty is their tech partner powering the logistics behind the Blue Violets cannabis delivery service.
“We had to get a little creative. We don’t have the same sources of resources as others,” Max explained.
So, Blue Violets, working with Priscotty, will be seeking to deliver premium cannabis products to customers’ doors in a safer, more sustainable, and more efficient way, for free.
Priscotty is a virtual cannabis retail and delivery tech company that partners with dispensaries. They said they offer secure, state-compliant, and user-friendly technology that streamlines operations for cannabis consumers, dispensaries, and delivery drivers.
The name of the company is a play on the name of CEO Scott Prisco.
A biscotti is also a sort of Italian cookie.
Prisco is from Bridgewater in Somerset County in Central Jersey. He grew up here and moved to the West Coast when he was 18 for college.
“This partnership with Blue Violets represents a significant milestone in Priscotty’s journey, Prisco declared. “We’re excited to bring our innovative delivery service to the Hoboken community and look forward to making a meaningful impact.”
“It’s incredibly special to launch in the state where I grew up. It’s a place that shaped so much of who I am today,” he added.
Prisco explained on a YouTube show that they have a sort of white labeling model.
Priscotty started doing deliveries in the Arizona cannabis market. They seem to want to expand since they have an office in South Jersey.
Legal cannabis delivery via an e-bike has taken a long time to roll out in New Jersey.
It took the large Multi-State Operators (MSOs) that dominated the medical cannabis market a long time to get into medical cannabis delivery after it was supposed to begin in 2020.
Several newer, exclusively adult-use cannabis dispensaries have been doing their own delivery like pizza places. They generally use cars.
Licensed cannabis delivery companies are only starting to open in the NJ cannabis market.
A lot of underground legacy operators have prided themselves on their delivery service for some time.
