Caroline Pharm Cannabis Dispensary
FEDERALSBURG, Md. – Caroline County’s first and only marijuana dispensary is preparing to open its doors this summer.
The Federalsburg-based dispensary is in its final stages of preparation, operating next to Caroline Pharma, a locally owned pharmacy. Amar Kalidindi, owner of Caroline Pharma and the soon-to-be Caroline Pharma Cannabis Dispensary, offered a glimpse inside the highly regulated facility.
“Here we have SunMed. It’s one of the largest growing facilities here in Maryland,” Kalidindi said, pointing out some of the product wrappers.
The dispensary has been a long time in the making, as the state of Maryland enforces strict regulations on cannabis sales.
“Believe it or not, everything that we sell here is organic. So no pesticides, no chemicals, no mold. So everything is approved by the state of Maryland and tested right here in Maryland,” Kalidindi said.
Among the state’s regulatory requirements are a secure vault with restricted access, staged products filled with tissue paper for compliance purposes, an on-site pharmacist, and a state-issued license to sell cannabis.
“So my license, I can only be in Caroline County, and I’m the only one allowed in Caroline County at this point,” said Eric Willis, co-owner of Caroline Pharma Cannabis Dispensary.
Willis, who partnered with Kalidindi to open the dispensary, acknowledged that cannabis businesses in small towns can be met with skepticism.
“Everybody thinks of it as a party, you know, and there are the young ones that do that,” Willis said.
However, he believes the medical benefits outweigh the stigma.
“My father had a medical marijuana card. He had pancreatic cancer, and it helped him through for 18 years. And matter of fact, when we started the process, we found out a lot of people had medical cards,” Willis said.
Caroline Pharma Cannabis Dispensary is still awaiting one final license from the state before it can officially open. If all goes as planned, the county’s first marijuana dispensary will begin serving customers this summer.
