Culture Canna Co., a cannabis dispensary, recently debuted on Corning’s Market Street, becoming the first legal marijuana enterprise to open in Steuben County.
Hours of operation at the 90 E. Market St. business are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The dispensary also offers home delivery. The store is closed on Sunday.
Culture Canna ownership has been encouraged by the early customer response to the business.
“It’s been very good,” said Mark Kamandulis, who co-owns Culture Canna along with Matthew Coley. “We’ve had a great response. It’s been very consistent and busy since we opened March 19. Better than we hoped for, to be honest.”
Kamandulis said Culture Canna Co. will have an official grand opening celebration sometime in April.
“We were reached out to by the Corning Chamber of Commerce about doing a ribbon cutting,” Kamandulis said. “But the date has not been set.”
The owners said they are very familiar with the cannabis industry and are excited to bring the new venture to Corning’s Market Street.
Culture Canna Co. offers in person sales, delivery, and digital options online.
Cannabis products include flowers of multiple strains at various price points, disposable vape pens, multiple forms of extracts and edibles, and more.
“Being closed on Sunday is something that the city requested,” Kamandulis said. “Obviously we are trying to do this to be in tune with what the city desires as much as possible.”
The Corning City Council voted 4-3 in late 2021 to opt-in on allowing marijuana dispensaries, but unanimously voted to opt-out of allowing on-site consumption lounge sites within the city.
Another Corning dispensary, Union Chill Cannabis, also plans to open in 2025 at 34 W. Pulteney St. in the former Leader newspaper building. The Dabber Hashery in Elmira, Chemung County’s first craft cannabis boutique, debuted in January.
