A cannabis dispensary is coming to the Meadowlands.
Scheduled to open in June at 300 Washington Ave. in Carlstadt, Herb Haus will be within walking distance of popular destinations like MetLife Stadium, Meadowlands racetrack, American Dream mall and the New Meadowlands Flea Market.
Billing itself as the “go-to spot for all things cannabis,” Herb Haus says it will offer a “safe and secure space where cannabis lovers can connect, explore and experience top-quality products in a laid-back, welcoming environment.” The storefront will handle walk-in and drive-thru customers, according to its website.

Founder Joe Kanegieser shared, “Herb Haus will offer the broadest selection of premium, lab-tested, and state-legal cannabis products at the best prices to customers visiting the Meadowland Sports Complex.”
“It’s been a long journey, and I couldn’t be happier to be in a position to bring Herb Haus to life with the help of Poseidon,” said Kanegieser, who was awarded a social equity license from the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission in May 2022.
He also secured a grant through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority’s Cannabis Equity Grant Program.

Launched in 2023, the initiative aims to assist entrepreneurs, particularly those from communities historically harmed by the war on drugs, so they can start and expand their businesses in New Jersey. Designed to eliminate long-standing barriers to entry, the initiative provides startups with grants for use on early-stage expenses, such as regulatory fees, rent, utilities and wages, as well as technical training.

An ‘exceptional’ location

Ahead of Herb Haus’ opening, California-based cannabis hedge fund Poseidon Investment Management announced the completion of financing with the dispensary. According to a spokesperson, Poseidon typically invests about $1 million into a store. It has previously backed other New Jersey dispensaries, including BLKBRN in Highland Park and Dogwood Green in West Orange.
In a March 19 press release, Poseidon Managing Director Patrick Rea said, “This is an exceptional location that’s full of opportunity to introduce a very diverse set of customers visiting the Meadowlands Sports Complex to New Jersey’s finest state-legal cannabis. Herb Haus will put customers first – with a safe, efficient, and premium cannabis dispensary experience. We expect Herb Haus to become the highest performing store in the tri-state area.”
After noting the state’s 25% growth last year in legalized cannabis sales, Kanegieser pointed out that approximately two-thirds of New Jersey’s 564 municipalities still prohibit cannabusinesses, which presents “compelling opportunities for thoughtfully located dispensaries in high-traffic areas.”
Herb Haus joins the scene as New Jersey prepares to welcome the FIFA Club World Cup and FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium in 2025 and 2026.

Skanska, which served as general contractor for the construction of the 2.2-million-square-foot MetLife Stadium, is now overseeing a renovation project to prep the facility for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
