Monterey has joined the cities of Seaside, Salinas, Marina and others in licensing recreational cannabis sales. Off the Charts – Monterey, the city’s first dispensary, holds a soft opening Saturday, January 25.
“The company is proud to bring our vision of providing high-quality cannabis products and exceptional service to Monterey,” according to a statement from Anthony Gonzales, community relations officer and co-owner of OTC.
Anthony Gonzales is the co-owner of the first Monterey cannabis dispensaries.
“This moment represents the culmination of more than four years of advocacy to ensure safe and reliable access to cannabis for our community,“ Gonzales added. “This opening marks a significant milestone for Monterey, and we are excited to contribute to the community’s growth and well-being.”
Consumers can expect a range of cannabis products, including flower, edibles, tinctures and topicals.
Cannabis started to be available for recreational use in California in 2018. The first jurisdiction locally to open for retail sales business was Del Rey Oaks.
Gonzales is not concerned that Seaside, where there are many dispensaries, is cutting back. “The local Monterey community will not have to go to Marina or Seaside to get cannabis. I live in New Monterey, so I experienced it myself,” he says.
Asked about California’s “experiment” with higher and higher THC levels available for sale, Gonzales says they do everything to make sure the product finds the right customer. Some medical marijuana users need strong potency.
After the soft opening this weekend, OTC plans to host a grand opening celebration, complete with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, at a date in the near future.
Soft opening takes place at 9am Saturday, Jan. 25. Off the Charts – Monterey, 734 Lighthouse Ave., Monterey. 884-5012, offthechartsshop.com.
