BACKUS — The Backus City Council scheduled a presentation by Sourcewell on the city’s options for zoning pertaining to cannabis businesses for Monday, Feb. 3.
During the Jan. 6 regular meeting, council members discussed bringing Sourcewell, their zoning administration, to provide them with detailed options for creating zoning for cannabis sales.

There could be a public hearing in March.
The council also addressed purchase of the former Backus School playground from Bi-County Community Action, with the intention of selling it to the school eventually.
The city’s attorney will work on a purchase agreement for the property.

The council discussed annual reorganization of official businesses and committee members. Very little changed.
The council approved:
The council’s mileage will be reimbursed at 70 cents per mile. Council meetings will continue to be 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.
