Two people who broke into a Bangor cannabis shop in an apparent attempt to steal weed left with only CBD products that don’t make you high.
In video capturing the early Sunday morning break-in at Pho King Great Cannabis, 1114 Hammond St., the two people can be heard saying they got the marijuana, but they in fact stole hemp-derived CBD products, Owner Guy “Trey” Davis III said.
All the cannabis products were locked in another room that the thieves did not enter, Davis said. Both CBD and THC are derived from cannabis plants, however CBD does not have the psychoactive ingredient that THC has.
Bangor police are investigating the break-in, Sgt. Jason McAmbley said.
It wasn’t the only break-in this week in Bangor. Someone also broke into Leadbetter’s Super Stop, 1105 Outer Hammond St., early Tuesday morning. Police are investigating both but did not say if they were connected, McAmbley said.
The thieves stole around $400 of product from the cannabis shop, Davis said. In addition to the hemp products, they took a bong and some other miscellaneous products.
The damage to the front door was the bigger issue. It forced the store to close for a couple days during a busy season to repair the damage.
The store was able to reopen Tuesday but the front door is boarded up until new glass can be installed.
Davis said the break-in was also reported to the state’s Office of Cannabis Policy, which did not immediately respond to request for comment Tuesday.
