LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Kentucky is set to hold its second medical cannabis dispensary lottery on Monday.
Two Kentucky Marijuana Card offices have opened in the commonwealth this week, including one on Preston Highway. The other is located in Lexington.
The facilities are meant to be a bridge between patients and dispensaries.
Kentucky became the 38th state to legalize medical marijuana last year, but there are steps patients need to take before getting it.
“It’s amazing. We’re super excited to be here to help everybody,” said Cassandra Brooks, the president of Kentucky Marijuana Card.
The company is one of the approved medical cannabis practitioners in Louisville.
“If you come to Kentucky Marijuana Card, we literally will help you from point A to point Z,” Brooks said.
It all starts with scheduling an appointment, but they also accept walk-ins. Then, they will look at your qualifying medical condition and help patients fill out an application.
“So many people don’t want to take pills. This is an alternative, and this is an alternative that they get to choose. And I think that’s amazing,” Brooks said. “Removing the stigma of what it once was not judging and not putting people in a box and stereotyping them for for wanting to take a holistic approach on their own health.”

Qualifying conditions include: PTSD, chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, chronic nausea and cancer.
“Medical marijuana can help alleviate that, if not, decrease the symptoms that they have throughout the day,” Brooks said.
Kentucky Medical Marijuana Center‘s board-certified physicians also guide people through the certification process.
Founder Ryan Grell told WDRB News they’ve seen a significant increase in interest with more than 150 appointments scheduled ahead of it becoming legal next month.
Both places are now expanding their teams to help patients improve their quality of life.
“We will continue to educate them and guide them through their journey, to make sure that they are living the life that they deserve,” Brooks said.
Come January, Kentucky Marijuana Card will have a notary on hand, so you can complete the entire application in Hillview.
A reminder, since marijuana is still illegal on the federal level, patients should prepare for out-of-pocket costs insurance companies can’t cover.
