BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – During his Team Kentucky update Thursday, Governor Andy Beshear announced the dates for the lottery that will determine the locations for cannabis dispensaries in South Central Kentucky.
“Monday, November 25th at 2 PM at the Kentucky Lottery Corporation in Louisville… it’ll follow the same format as the lottery for cultivators and processors we held earlier this week. The Lottery Corporation will draw four selects for each of those regions,” he says.
Beshear also says it’s important to make sure everything is right before the lottery takes place, and dispensaries can open.
“Getting it right has always been our number one focus… and even with the changes in the law, the period for the ramp up was going to be a challenge. So we believe that we will see dispensaries open in the first part of next year,” he says.
Also in the update, Secretary of State Michael Adams stopped by to stress the importance of early voting, but also making sure you know who you’re voting for so lines are not bogged down.
“Most of the races on the ballot are non-partisan in most parts of the state. This morning, I voted, and one third of one or two pages was partisan races. So even if you’re a straight ticket Republican or Democrat, if you fill in that one bubble, you’re not done voting yet. There are city councils and judges, school boards, constitutional amendments, all sorts of things that are non-partisan elections… It’s an open book test, you can look at your ballot before you show up to vote it,” Adams says.
Governor Beshear was also asked if he believes America should switch to a popular vote system instead of the electoral college. Here’s what he had to say.
“I support any change that gets us closer to every single state being a part of a presidential election. I think that a popular vote would be a better form of democracy where we would see more candidates come to Kentucky, but also come to other states where turning out that many more Kentuckians matters just as much as turning out that many more people in Arizona or somewhere else,” he says.
