REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The Redmond City Council will be seeking public comment Tuesday evening on whether to ask voters this fall to extend the current two-year voter-approved prohibition of psilocybin service centers within city limits.
In the November 2022 General Election, Redmond voters approved a ballot measure which placed a two-year moratorium/ban on psilocybin service centers. The moratorium expires on Dec. 31.
Friday’s announcement said the council has two primary options: let the current moratorium sunset, allowing the Oregon Health Authority to begin accepting applications for the establishment of psilocybin services centers in Redmond beginning in January 2025, or councilors can refer a ballot measure to be voted on Nov. 5 that extends the moratorium within the city limits.
Tuesday’s council discussion “is intended to be informational and provide an opportunity for citizen input on psilocybin service centers,” the news release stated. Any decision on whether to put the issue on the ballot would likely not be made until the July 9 or July 23 council meeting.
Residents are encouraged to provide council with feedback in-person. City Council Meetings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are hosted in the City Council Chambers, 411 SW 9th Street in Redmond.
Unable to attend in person? You can provide public comment virtually. Pre-registration is required by 4:00 p.m. on the date of the meeting. To register email publictestimony@redmondoregon.gov or call 541-923-7755. Written comments may be submitted via email to PublicTestimony@RedmondOregon.gov.
Redmond City Council meetings are streamed live on the city website at www.redmondoregon.gov/CityCouncilLive and are broadcast live on COTV 11 – BendBroadband Channel 11 beginning at 6:00 p.m. on regular meeting nights.
