HOOD RIVER — On May 28, Hood River’s first and only psilocybin treatment center, Vital Reset, held an open house with local healers, healthcare providers and community members in attendance to learn more about the benefits of “magic mushrooms” treating depression and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Co-owners Heidi Venture and John Nelson started Vital Reset after their experiences using psilocybin as a treatment option. A news release stated: “Attendees had the opportunity to meet the passionate facilitators behind Vital Reset, including co-founders Heidi Venture and John Nelson, who have dedicated themselves to promoting mental well-being through psilocybin-assisted therapy. Both had powerful, life-changing experiences through psilocybin that led them to create Vital Reset to share this treatment with the world.”
The group received approval from the Oregon Health Authority in June 2023 and one month later served their first client.
Upper Valley resident and licensed Mental Health Therapist Mary Zenorini said it was “one of the most valuable things I’ve ever done in my life.” According to the release, Zenorini is now in training to become a facilitator in hopes of helping others in the search for emotional and mental relief and healing from traumatic experiences.
Psilocybin treatment is one of the newest medical advancements and some have said price is an obstacle to treatment.

“There’s been a lot of talk about the cost of psilocybin services, but I think people really need to focus more on the value,” Venture said. “If I had known four years ago that my depression would be completely relieved, I would get my life entirely back and be a vibrant effective human being again, I would have given my whole retirement fund! It would have been worth it and then some.”
She continued to say that previously suicidal clients are no longer considering it, clients with migraines report their headaches are under control and veterans with PTSD are healing.
“Vital Reset plans to continue hosting community events, workshops, and educational sessions to raise awareness about the benefits of psilocybin therapy. As the center opens its doors to clients aged 21 and over, it remains dedicated to providing a legal, safe, supportive, and transformative environment,” the news release said.
