An Ocean County woman was arrested this week after she was accused of growing and selling psilocybin mushrooms out of her home with the help of one of three children she cared for, authorities said.
The investigation began in March when officers from the Lacey Township Police Department were alerted by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency of a 60-year-old township resident’s alleged activities, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
On March 13, detectives from the department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit searched Margaret Whalen’s home and seized several jars containing what they suspected to be psilocybin mushrooms, the office said.
