Renowned rapper and fervent cannabis advocate Wiz Khalifa took center stage this week by throwing out the first pitch at a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game. However, it did not take long for controversy to break out.
In a couple of pre-game tweets, Khalifa hinted that cannabis -a given when it comes to Wiz- wasn't the only substance in his system at the time.
As Green State spotted, before taking a stand on the mound the Pittsburgh native shared on Twitter: “Finna get stoned af and throw this first pitch at the pirates game." And about a minute later, he added an intriguing P.S.: "Shroomed out throwin a baseball is crazy."
Both statements suggested that Khalifa was under the influence not only of marijuana but also that of psychedelic mushrooms.

Once introduced by the announcer of the Pirates PA, Wiz greeted the crowd with a smile for ten seconds. Then he went on to enthusiastically throw the ball, which landed just outside the plate. Upon his throw, Wiz simply shrugged and left the field, leaving a trail of questions in his wake.
This isn't the first time the rapper has stirred controversy on the baseball field. During his last game appearance, in 2017, he wore a T-shirt that read "Legalize It" and beckoned to smoke a joint just before throwing the first ball.
Back then, his actions were condemned by the Major League Baseball (MLB) officials, who stated that “marijuana is a prohibited substance in all of our drug programs,” and that the situation was unfortunate and “should not have happened."
Despite the critics, Wiz Khalifa did not back down and defended his position in favor of marijuana, stating he uses it wherever he is, and that those inviting him know that's what they're inviting.
All again reflecting the rapper’s commitment to defend cannabis use, even in a sports context and despite criticism, remaining at the center of a heated debate.
A lot has changed in baseball since 2017. Perhaps not as much as we would like, but progress is, still, visible. MLB has effectively softened its stance on cannabis, and last October it became the first major league to officially have a CBD brand as a sponsor and signed with cannabis brand Charlotte's Web, whose products went on to be the "official CBD of MLB."
