CATSKILL — A representative of the cannabis dispensary proposed for Catskill attended the Village Planning Board meeting Wednesday to give an update on the project.
Demetri Chriss said he hoped the project will be able to move forward by the next planning board meeting Jan. 22.
He said the application for the dispensary license is in place with the New York state Office of Cannabis Management and Cannabis Control Board and he was “confident” the dispensary would be receiving its license at some point.
In November, state cannabis regulators voted to settle two lawsuits that blocked the opening of recreational cannabis dispensaries across the state.
The dispensary, Catskill Roots, will be located at 79-81 Maple Ave., or Route 9W, in Catskill.
Kevin Conklin, chief architect at Conklin Architecture, outlined the plans for the site at a public hearing in November.
The house located at the front of the property will be converted into a cafe, and the garage at the rear of the property will be converted into the dispensary. A log cabin on the property will be dismantled and removed.
The rear of the property, off Cowles Street and Edgemere Hill Road, will be used for deliveries and staff parking. There will be a total of 20 parking spots on site for the dispensary and cafe.
Twenty-four-hour surveillance and a feed from security cameras on the property will be tied directly into the Catskill Village Police Department.
Chriss said individuals looking to shop at the dispensary will have to be 21 to enter, with a valid identification that is scanned to Albany in real time.
Chriss said at the meeting that deliveries to the building will take place in small quantities, once a day, by a small, unmarked transit vehicle.
No consumption of cannabis will be allowed on site at the dispensary, including in the proposed restaurant on the property.
