LAKELAND — The company that dominates Florida’s medical marijuana market will soon have a presence in Polk County.
Trulieve Cannabis Corporation plans to open a dispensary soon at 1644 N. Florida Ave. It will be the fourth such outlet in Lakeland and the sixth in Polk County.
Trulieve, based in Quincy, claims 55 percent of the Florida market and reported revenue of $58 million in the second quarter of this year. The company’s stock is traded on the Canadian Securities Exchange.
The dispensary will occupy a former medical office that has been undergoing renovations in recent weeks. As of Friday, Trulieve had not announced an opening date for the 2,100-square-foot store.
Lakeland already has dispensaries operated by Curaleaf, GrowHealthy and Surterra. The Trulieve location, just south of Modest Street, will give the city three outlets within about 1.5 miles of each other between Memorial Boulevard and Interstate 4.
Surterra and Liberty Health Sciences operate dispensaries in Winter Haven.
The new location will be Trulieve’s 40th dispensary in Florida, the company said in a news release.
“Dispensary locations are chosen strategically to address our patient population and deliver coverage throughout the state,” Director of Investor Relations Lynn Ricci said in an emailed statement. “Opening in Lakeland is something Trulieve has been looking forward to, as a large portion of patients live in Central Florida, and being able to bring patients in Polk County expanded access is part of that mission.”
Ricci said the dispensary will have six point-of-sale stations to reduce wait times for patients.
Trulieve offers the state’s widest variety of products, Ricci said, including smokable flower, concentrates, tinctures and concentrated oil. The products will be available in the store and for online ordering and home delivery.
Trulieve subsidiaries operate dispensaries in California and Connecticut and plan to open soon in Massachusetts.
